FAQs

  • Absolutely! MOre than half of our attendees last year came solo. The schedule is full of group activities and opportunities to peel off alone for reflection, a solo hike, or a hammock hang with a good book. The group suite provides the perfect mix of privacy in your pod when you want it, and proximity to other retreaters gathering for a sunrise coffee talk on the deck and sunset campfire games. You’ll see familiar faces from Flow, and we’ll host a happy hour at the studio a few weeks before we leave for everyone to get to know each other. Many of the solo travelers also carpooled to and from the resort.

  • Yes, while there is 2x-a-day yoga, this is a wellness retreat with a variety of activities and ample time to relax, reset, connect, spend time alone, and explore the parts and lakes nearby if you choose. We had non-yogi partners participate last year, and you are welcome to bring family members or friends who do not regularly practice.

  • All-in about 3.5 hours. And we wouldn’t have wanted it shorter. The drive is beautiful, and it provides time to start decompressing well before you arrive. We’ll provide playlists, podcasts, and conversation-starters to help you make the most of the time.

  • We have two private glamping yurts that sleep 2-4 in two queen beds if you’re looking for more privacy. That said… Shannon and I had intended to stay in a yurt last year, but made the last minute decision to stay in the cabin with ten other retreaters and we’re so glad we did. Each pod is curtained off for privacy and there are two modern bathrooms and showers. We were really only in the cabin to sleep, but truth be told, there were opportunities to get to know the other retreaters in the casual conversations and early morning chats that we just wouldn’t have had in a yurt. Those little moments of connection made the trip. Privacy wasn’t an issue.

  • Short answer -- as much as you like. We have a robust schedule (here’s last year’s day-to-day itinerary for reference) but you get to choose your own path every day — whether that’s with the group, solo, or a mix of both. There are no mandatories — even meals can be boxed up for later if you need or want to step back from the group. This trip is for you to use however you like. We’re here to provide options and support along the way!

  • The guided barefoot hike was great, as was the hive tour. We had an extended kayaking day trip we enjoyed but may not replicate if the temp is too brisk, but there are wood-burning and mead-making activities at the resort, cedar hot tubs, and polar plunges in the pond for the daring. There’s games, campfires, and good conversations that were every bit as enjoyable as the time in the woods and on the water.

    • Activewear/athleisure for four vinyasa flows; comfy clothes for two restoratives + nightly campfire hangouts (consider bringing a laundry bag to throw dirty clothes during the weekend)

    • Hiking boots and wool socks (small plastic bag to store them in for the trip home if they get wet/muddy);

    • 1-2 bathing suits if you’d like to polar plunge in the pond, soak in the cedar tubs or kayak at the Rocky Gap State Park

    • Smart casual clothing for dinner

    • Sweats, hoodies and layers for evenings outdoors (it gets cool in the mountains)

  • Mats, blocks, and bath towels are all available at the resort. There are mats, but they are lower-cost public use mats, so you may want to bring your own, along with any hand towels, mat towels you typically use.

  • Yoga Gear

    • Hand or mat towels (bath towels provided)

    • Mat (optional -- lodge has mats, blocks, straps, bolsters)

    • Refillable water bottle (We have a dozen orphans in the back of the studio if you want to borrow for the trip)

    Tech

    • phone chargers

    • screen-less retreating is encouraged; we’ll take and share photos.

    • Noise machine — K+S will bring a white noise machine for the cabin.

    Note: River Mountain is remote. Cell service is poor. Fiber high-speed wifi is available. Use Facetime, WhatsApp, iMessage, or email to communicate with home. Teachers -- bluetooth speakers are provided by the facility for all indoor venues; K+S to bring a bluetooth speaker for use on the outdoor Platforms if desired.

    Toiletries

    • Toothbrush/paste, face wash, deodorant etc.

    • Beach towel and flip-flops for soaking tubs/swimming

    • Shower gel, shampoo and conditioner are provided

    Entertainment

    • Book, Kindle or other reading material

    Note: A journal and journal prompts will be provided upon arrival; games are available at the main lodge, log cabin and barn, including cards, Uno, frisbee, soccer and footballs, bocce ball, cornhole, Kan Jam, and Disc Toss Game; feel free to bring your own!

    Outdoors

    • Umbrella + light waterproof jacket or poncho in case of a shower

    • Bug spray, SPF + cheap sunglasses;

    Camping gear

    • Campfire blanket (optional). One wool blanket is available from the gear closet for your stay; we are purchasing firewood for the cabin and the communal fire pits. If you have a private yurt, you may purchase unlimited firewood for the entire stay for $25.

  • The cabin and other public buildings have water-bottle fillers. Yogis staying in the yurt can fill up in the kitchens and public spaces, or drop by the cabin before classes.

  • Yes, you can bring your favorite drinks to the cabin or yurt. There are nightly happy hours with draft beer and sangria available. We’ll have a cooler and ice and a variety of local PA craft beers at the cabin to share with anyone who would like around the campfire or at dinner. A few guests last year stopped at the wineries between Cleveland and River Mountain to pick up a few bottles for the trip.

  • Costa Rica uses the same outlets as the US, and every room has AC and electric outlets for charging your tech. There are no TVs in the rooms or public spaces. There is wifi throughout the resort that was powerful enough for us to stream movies in our room from a laptop.

  • Yes, we will host a happy hour for the instructors and Flowgis who are making the trip so we have a chance to put names to faces and ask/answer any questions!

  • We use the deposits to secure the property, so unfortunately the deposit is non-refundable. However, if we are able to secure a replacement for your spot we will refund your deposit. Remaining balances will be paid in full October 1, 2025. If you must cancel after paying the balance and we can secure a replacement from the waitlist, we will refund your full payment.

Send us your questions, and we’ll add them (with answers) to the FAQ!
