Studio Etiquette + New Flowgi FAQs

  • If It’s your first class, review our schedule, click “sign up” for the desired class (if you are new to yoga, we recommend Basics or Slow Flow for your first class). Follow the on-screen prompts to create a profile. Select “1st Class Free” from the list of available passes, then “Check Out.” Select the class to book. For future classes, choose from the schedule, log in with your credentials, pick from our list of available passes and contracts, and book.

  • You’ll be sweating, squatting, lunging, twisting, lying down, folding forward, and raising your arms above your head throughout a vinyasa practice. We recommend comfortable, fitted, and ideally moisture-wicking clothing. Tank and crop tops, yoga pants and shorts are ideal for heated classes. Baggy clothing can obstruct movement and feel heavy when sweaty.

  • Avoid eating snacks or meals directly before class. We recommend giving yourself an 1 hour to digest a snack, and 2+ hours between a meal and class. Drink water during class as needed, but you may be more comfortable during practice if you hydrate before and after class.

  • Our studio opens 30 minutes before class. Arriving 10 minutes beforehand is standard. Plan to be here 15 minutes early for your first class to sign your waiver and familiarize yourself with the studio. Please respect our team and the other Flowgis in class by arriving before the scheduled start time — we lock the studio doors before we start, so there are no guarantees you’ll be able to join class late.

  • Hang any coats or jackets near the entrance and place any personal items and electronics in the cubbies to prevent clutter or distractions like rings or alarms in the studio. Please do not place wet or muddy footwear in the cubbies. We have a lost and found in the back of the studo — let us know if you’ve left anything behind. We lock the front door during class, but please keep any valuables locked in your car. We have a storage area in the rear of the studio past the bathrooms if you have any items you’d be more comfortable leaving in back. Flow is not responsible for any lost items.

  • We have mats, hand towels and mat towels available for rent for $2. We have a water cooler to fill your water bottle, and water, coconut water, and iced coffees for sale in our fridge. We have snacks for sale if you want to grab a quick bite before you leave, and apparel for purchase if you forget a change of clothes. Blocks, straps and bolsters are in the studio and available for you to use, free of charge.

  • Please enter the studio quietly, close the door behind you, choose an open space, and place the upper left corner of your mat to the right of the space indicator tape on the studio floor. Spaces are first come, first served. The instructor will teach from the center of the room, in front of the tower lights.

  • Heat promotes mobility and flexibility, enabling you to get deeper into stretches and poses. Heat also triggers sweat, opening up the circulatory system. Hot yoga can take some getting used to. We recommend new yogis graduate from light heat to heated and participate in hot classes once better acclimated to practicing in heated classes. Remember to take breaks for water and child’s pose is always available to you if you feel dizzy or overheated. Check out the heat scale on our Comparison Chart for class temps and recs.

  • You’ll quietly enter the studio and place your mat on the floor to the right of a space indicator. Depending on the class, the room will heated between 80 and 85 degrees. It’s common for yogis to spend the time before practice stretching or laying quietly on their mats. The instructor will start class by calling an initial pose, and then call a series of poses progressing from warmup poses on the mat to more active flows building heat and movement. Flows are followed by a cool-down period of stretching and additional core, then a final Savasana pose on your back, eyes closed, arms and legs outstretched. After a few minutes in Savasana, the instructor will call the class back wogethei for a final reflection. The class will end with the instructor and students bowing together and saying Namaste.

  • Your instructor will let you know when you enter the studio which props you’ll need for class — typically a bolster, a few blocks and a strap. You’ll begin on your mat in a comfortable position.
The instructor will play meditative music and walk the class though a series of stretches, indicating where to place and how to use the props to deepen the stress and maximize comfort. In restorative, poses are held for an extended period of time, usually 3-5 minutes. Class ends with Savasana, a final pose taken on your back, eyes closed arms and legs extended. After Savasana, the instructor will bring the class together toe end with a Namaste, and you’ll return your props and exit the studio.

  • If you need to leave early, please let your instructor know before the start of practice and excuse yourself quietly before Savasana. The front door will be dead-bolted, so you wil need to unlock the door to leave.

If you need to use the restroom, please be mindful of others’ mats and students moving around you as you exit and enter.

  • We wet mop the floors after class. If you’ve rented a mat and brought a towel, please wipe down your mat and leave it out. We will clean and put the mat away after. If you rented a towel, please leave it with the mat.

  • We practice and sweat together in a hot studio within a few feet of our fellow Flowgis. A little funk is normal and appropriate during and after a workout, but please be mindful of bringing unwanted smells, sprayed scents or smoke into the studio. Good mat hygiene makes practice more enjoyable. We sell mat cleaners and can offer tips on mat cleaning and care to prevent accumulated stink.

  • Those are our Assist Consent cards! If you’d like our instructors to offer hands-on assists during your practice, take a card from the wall or the check-in desk and place it in front of your mat in the studio. This indicates to the instructor that you are open to receiving assists during the class. Placing an assist card in front of your mat is not a guarantee you’ll receive assist. After class, please leave the card where you placed it on the floor so we can clean it before the next use.
