The Future of Flow

This time last year we were making plans for the future of Flow. A little nervous. A lot excited. And just the right amount of uncertainty over what a move into small business ownership would mean for our family and this community. We hadn’t been looking to buy a yoga studio. But when Adam brought us the opportunity to take over Flow, it felt right, personally and professionally. Fast-forward 12 months, and we both agree it was one of the best decisions we’ve made. Thanks to all of you for being part of this experience with us. Getting to know the people who come through our doors every day, whether it’s their first, 50th or 500th visit, has been our favorite part.

A few months ago we began receiving emails from many of you alerting us to a potential opportunity to once again plan Flow’s future. And once again, without having been looking, we find ourselves a little nervous, and a lot excited, to announce the addition of a second Flow location in Gates Mills: Flow Chagrin River.

Introducing Flow Chagrin River

On January 1, we’ll expand into the former Sanctuary Yoga space in the lower level of the Old Livery Tavern in downtown Gates Mills, a short stroll from Sara’s Place, Addie’s Cup and the Gates Mills Library. It sits under the tree-cover of the Gates Mills Arboretum, with wall-to-wall windows that let the natural light in and look out over the Chagrin River. It’s a place away from the crowd to restore and connect more deeply with your practice and each other.

More Options, More Value

Flow Chagrin River will complement Flow Wilson Mills by bringing additional unheated and heated classes, from Blend, Slow Flow, and Restorative to All Levels and Power Vinyasa classes, plus Gentle, Chair, and a weekly kids-welcome class regularly requested by our community. All Flow class packages and unlimited passes can be used at both studios. We’ll also be experimenting with new workshops and private events: smaller scale yoga-centric holiday flows and happy hours, birthday parties, and baby or bridal shower yoga brunches catered by our favorite Gates Mills eateries.

Got a good idea or want to help shape our schedule? If you’re a former Sanctuary client or plan to visit us in the new space, please share your class time and format requests in our survey. Send your response before December 15 for a chance to win a free month of Unlimited Yoga.

What’s Next: January Free Flow Weekend

On Saturday, January 4, we’ll be hosting an open house at Flow Chagrin River with free classes all day long. Come meet the Flow Chagrin River instructors in our new space! The schedule for the Jan 4 Open House is live now, and space is limited, so sign up by filtering for Flow Chagrin River in the location picker in our updated website scheduler, or search Flow in the Mindbody app and select the Flow Chagrin River listing. We’ll continue to add new classes to the Chagrin River schedule through the end of the year (we’ve already added a New Year’s duo — 108 Sun Salutations with Shannon at 10am, and a Candlelight Restorative and Sound Bath with Lyndy at 6pm).

But wait, there’s more! On January 5th, we’ll follow our Flow Chagrin River Open House with another Open House with free classes all day long at Flow Wilson Mills to celebrate our first year anniversary together. Schedule to come, so follow our socials for real-time updates when the Jan 5 classes are available. If you’re new to Flow, reach out to kevin@flowyogastudiocle.com to get added to our email list.

We’re including an extended FAQ below to answer your questions about the new space, and we’ll add to it as we get more by email and in the survey. We appreciate your patience as we review the survey responses and finalize the 2025 class schedules for both locations. We’ll post both before the end of the year.

Thanks to all of you for an incredible first year at Flow Wilson Mills. We’re excited to add Flow Chagrin River, new instructors and more amazing yogis like you to our growing community!

Flow Expansion FAQ

  • Great question. Our studios are a second home for us, and we make an effort to get to know everyone personally. We have four core values we live and operate our studio by. There are also some team and community guidelines we follow to ensure a positive studio experience:

    • Culture — We support our teachers with free photography, free quarterly professional development workshops, marketing and promotional support for their classes, and free yoga for one person they choose, because being surrounded by people who love us makes us all better.

    • Class Cancellations — Reliability is important. If a class is on the schedule, we’re having the class. No need to call ahead. We do not cancel before start time due to low/no signups. If a teacher has to cancel last minute and we can’t find a sub, we will text everyone signed up to let them know.

    • Nutrition, Movement and Body Positivity — We are an inclusive, body-positive studio. We recognize and celebrate everyone’s unique fitness and wellness goals, regardless of ability. You will not hear our instructors or staff talking about the amount of calories burned in class, the need to “earn” a guilty pleasure meal, working off a splurge night, or getting ready for swimsuit season. We believe in balance, achievable goals, and sustainable habits. That food is energy, not “good” or “bad.” We practice and teach yoga to promote strength, flexibility, balance, mental/physical health, and self-confidence. Please help us create a blame-and-shame-free environment for everyone.

    • No-shows and tardiness — Please arrive at least five minutes before class. It’ll make everyone’s experience better. Remember to un-register for class if your plans change so we are not waiting for you. Doors lock at the posted start time. Any registered yogi using a class pass who has not arrived by the posted start time will have their class pass credited to the account for a future class. No refunds.

    • Studio expectations — Kindness, patience, positivity. Respect for differences in personal values, beliefs, motivations and world views. Please assume positive intent. Strict no asshole policy.

  • In our Jan 2024 survey to the Flow Community, several rspondents jokingly suggested expanding into CVS or adding more natural light and green space. While we love our Wilson Mills studio, are hot power fans, and have enjoyed watching our community and class sizes grow, we’ve also valued balancing our power practice with Slow Flow, Blend, Vin-to-Yin and Restorative, and we appreciate the relationships and connection that smaller class sizes offer. Chagrin River’s smaller scale studio set on the water under mature trees in quiet downtown Gates Mills is a perfect complement to Wilson Mills’s intensity, heat, and the energy of larger class sizes. It also gives us a way to grow our community and our business without it feeling cut-and-paste. It’s close enough to feel like a natural extension to our Wilson Mills location and both the space and offerings are additive to our culture and community.

  • While both locations will share instructors, passes, pricing and promotions, each location will have a distinct feel; as such, some of the lighter heat and gentler class offerings we’ve added at Flow Wilson Mills will be moving to our second location.

Flow Wilson Mills will continue to offer daily hot and heated vinyasa classes and larger private events. Flow Chagrin River will focus more on Light Heat Vinyasa, Blend, Slow Flow, Gentle and Restorative classes, new offerings like Chair and Family classes, as well as workshops and our YTT program. We also will be leveraging the Chagrin River space for small group private sessions, outdoor happy hours and forest bathing, private yoga parties (think bridal and baby showers), and other recurring celebrations like full/new moon meditations, pre-natal and baby yoga, Reiki sessions, and even music lessons and performances. To be clear, while will be moving some lighter heat classes from Wilson Mills to Chagrin River, we will continue to maintain popular light heat offerings at Wilson Mills, and some heated all-levels and hot power vinyasa classes at Chagrin River. That said, we are excited about the different character each location provides and will explore and reflect that character through their respective offerings over time.

  • We’re thrilled to share that so far five of the instructors who know the Chagrin River space best have decided to join Flow’s teaching team. We’re excited to give these new team members and Flow’s current instructors an opportunity to expand their reach by leading classes at both locations. Many of you have had met Danielle Ricchino at her new Wilson Mills Blend class, and we also welcome Charles Carleton, Kaitlyn Kyle, Jocelynn Ray, and Veena Sanil to team Flow. Look for more on these instructors soon on Flow’s website and social.

  • Book in advance using the scheduler on our website and choosing Wilson Mills or Chagrin River from the location dropdown. You will also soon find both locations on the Mindbody app by searching Flow Wilson Mills or Flow Chagrin River. You can call 440.459.1843 or drop-in 5-10 minutes before class, though given the smaller size classes at Chagrin River, booking ahead is strongly encouraged.

  • Yes! Any pass purchased at either studio can be used to book classes at both studios. So you get a bunch of new class options and times for the same price.

  • Yes, to welcome Gates Mills community members to Flow, we will honor unused Sanctuary passes at Flow Wilson Mills through December 31, 2024. To transfer your passes to Flow, email kevin@flowyogastudiocle.com, DM us on Instagram or Facebook, call us 440.459.1843, or drop by the Wilson Mills location and we’ll take good care of you.

  • Neither Chagrin River nor our purchase of the Wilson Mills location were planned. Both presented themselves unexpectedly, and after reviewing them closely against our professional and personal priorities, we decided they were opportunities to continue to grow together, meet amazing people and give back to our community. We have no current plants to expand further, but we remain open to whatever life throws our way!
